Properly Use your Heart Hugger Device by Following These Steps:
- Sizing & Fitting- The first step in ensuring that you are set up to use the Heart Hugger correctly is getting the correct size. Our guide for sizing and fitting can be found here. We have four sizes ranging from small to extra large. Men will measure above the nipple line and women will measure above the breasts. We find the easiest way to ensure a proper fit is to perform measurements during pre-operative orientation.
- Get Help After Surgery- After your procedure, you will most likely be a little groggy and in pain. We definitely recommend getting help to fit the Heart Hugger by your healthcare provider. This will ensure that the device is in the correct place and can start working for you right away.
- Adjusting the Device- Once the device is on your person, you can adjust the device to best handle pain management associated with cardiac surgery rehabilitation. This done using the Velcro straps above and below the handles that will keep the handles parallel to each other. You will need to make sure the handle adjustment is not too close together and that the chest belt is tight enough to support the wound.
